I had a limp

and you showed me how I could

use it in my own dance

                I was mute

and you showed me how I could

                                 sing without making a sound

I was tired

and you did not tell me

to get up and get moving

you sat with me and didn’t say a word

     and so my spirit heard:

take your time

                     rest when you’re tired

we’re not in a hurry to get anywhere

we’re already here…

                  . . . and you showed me what you meant . . .

and I no longer felt tired

                                        because now I felt home.
